 eCommerce for Vodafone NZ

Nov 2019 - May 2020

This was a multi-squad agile initiative to replace Vodafone’s existing eCommerce platform. I joined the project as one of three designers, but quickly stepped up to lead the project from a design perspective and be the common thread tying the strategy across the product team.

This project gave me the opportunity to both zoom-in to breakdown some of the components to their minute details, as well as zoom out to look at how these various journeys were interconnected and part of one system.

Zooming In

While it was a great, and necessary start to look at the project from the lens of multiple journeys the customers could take, the tight deadlines also meant that we didn’t have the luxury to map each possible permutation of them as independent user flows.

I broke down some of the key components into states as a systemic view. This helped document and share a large number of scenarios without overwhelming anyone on the team. It also helped other designers collaborating on the project to ensure we following the same mental models.

Zooming out

Multiple teams building multiple journeys also meant more disconnects. I clearly visualised and shared how all of them would fit together in the final product, bringing alignment and clarity across the group of over 50 developers and testers.

Constant sharing of the value each element adds to the customer helped keep the momentum in the right direction until delivery.
